After spending 15 years in Breckenridge with its long winters, Mark and his family moved to Evergreen in the summer of 1989. Along with the more temperate climate, was the desire to be closer to Denver and its many cultural and entertainment attributes, while maintaining a connection to the mountains that we all love. Evergreen was the obvious choice.
Raised in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Mark grew up skiing the hills of Ohio, NY and Michigan. His decision to eventually live in Colorado was made following a ski trip to Aspen in 1968, and following graduation from Purdue University with a degree in civil engineering, he moved to Winter Park. His mountain life of giving ski lessons by day, and cooking in a restaurant at night, was soon interrupted by a tour of duty with the U.S. Army. Following officers school he was commissioned a Lieutenant and then went on to become an Airborne Ranger. He was honorably discharged in 1975, and quickly returned to his new home in the mountains of Colorado.
Upon moving to Breckenridge, Mark worked as a miner at the Climax Mine near Leadville, and quickly progressed up the management ladder utilizing his engineering education combined with the leadership skills honed in the Army. Upon leaving Climax, Mark managed a small precious metal mining company as Vice President and General Manager. While working full time developing the precious metals mining and exploration business, Mark earned another degree, this time from the Colorado School of Mines (MBA-Mineral Economics). The expansion of the company and movement of the headquarters to Denver necessitated the relocation from Breckenridge to Evergreen.
While living in Breckenridge, Mark was actively involved in the community, serving on the Summit County Planning Commission, the Breckenridge Planning Commission, and a four-year elected term to the Town Council. During this term, the Council acquired and built the Jack Nicklaus public golf course, Kingdom Park and acquired the Hill Ranch and its subsequent water rights transfer to insure the water for snowmaking and the town’s future. In addition, Mark was an EMT/Firefighter on the Breckenridge fire department for 14 years, a former Assistant Chief and is currently a lifetime honorary member.
Following the contraction of the domestic precious metals mining, exploration and development business in the U.S., Mark formed a new company engaged in the development of single family homes located adjacent to golf courses. Again, utilizing his engineering, leadership and business management skills, Mark focused on the development of communities for so called “lifestyle” patio homes, designed to provide the best elements of maintenance free living, combined with an attractive setting next to a golf course.
The transition to real estate sales has been a natural one for Mark, having been a licensed Broker in Colorado since 1994. While still maintaining involvement in land development, Mark brings his unique combination of engineering, leadership, management and marketing skills for the benefit of both buyers and sellers of real property. Previously a Broker Associate as a PREVIEWS Broker with Coldwell Banker, and then with Fuller Towne & Country Properties West in Evergreen, Mark is excited to be associated with ReMax Alliance of Evergreen, where he is afforded the freedom to utilize his refined skills in the marketing and sales of distinctive, unique and high-end homes in the Evergreen market place.
Mark presently lives in Soda Creek, where he enjoys breaking (gentling) and training his horses.
